Built around how skincare makers actually work

Ingredients measured in grams, bought in kilos

Shea by the kilo, jojoba by the liter, actives by the gram. Track each ingredient in the unit your formula uses; from the Maker plan, a work order for a 20-jar whip deducts exactly what it took (work orders up to 10 a month on Maker as a trial and 100 on Team, unlimited on Business and Enterprise).

Shelf life runs the business

Fresh products expire, which makes overproduction expensive and stale ingredients a real risk. From the Maker plan, Keepsel keeps the expiry date of each ingredient lot you receive, so you see what's aging out before it becomes a write-off.

The jar costs more than the butter

Glass jars, lids, shrink bands, labels and boxes routinely outweigh the ingredient cost. Put packaging in every formula so the price protects your whole cost, not half of it.

Batch records for a trust business

Skincare customers ask what's in it and when it was made. A lot number per batch in your batch log keeps dates and yields on record; from the Maker plan, Keepsel holds the lot numbers of the ingredients you receive.

A day in Keepsel, for skincare makers

  1. Stock your ingredient shelf

Butters, carrier oils, emulsifiers, actives and packaging, each in formula units with real purchase prices.

  2. Whip a batch

From the Maker plan, a work order for 20 jars of body butter deducts the ingredients and adds the jars to finished stock.

  3. Sell fresh, rotate honestly

Label each jar with its batch and made-on date, and sell the oldest first, so markets and online orders always get the freshest stock.

  4. Reorder by the formula

From the Maker plan, alerts on shea, oils and jars fire at the low-stock levels you set, before a bestseller pauses production.

Questions skincare makers ask

How do I track skincare ingredients by the gram?

Add each ingredient as a material in grams (or ounces) with its cost per gram from the pack you bought. A formula that uses 62 g of shea then knows exactly what those grams cost.

How should I price handmade body butter or lotion?

Cost the full formula (ingredients, jar, lid, label, band), then add your time and margin. Skincare often carries 4–5× markup at retail because trust and presentation carry value; the floor is knowing your true per-jar number first. From the Maker plan, Keepsel counts that time in each product's cost.

How do I manage expiry dates on small-batch skincare?

Date every batch when you make it and give it a shelf life on its label. From the Maker plan, Keepsel keeps the expiry dates of the ingredients you receive, so you can use the oldest first and run a sale while stock is still fresh, instead of discovering a drawer of expired jars in December.

Can I track which ingredient lots went into a batch?

Write the ingredient lots on each batch's record when you make it: that's what lets you know which jars a supplier batch touched. From the Maker plan, Keepsel keeps the lot numbers of the shea, oils and fragrance you receive, so the lots are there to copy down.

Does Keepsel work for a skincare line with many scents and sizes?

Yes. From the Maker plan, scent and size can be variations, so a butter in 2, 4 and 8 oz across five scents is one tidy product: fifteen combinations, each with its own cost, price and stock count.
