Roast, Size, Grind

Built around how coffee roasters actually work

Roasting shrinks your inventory by design

Fifteen ounces of green becomes twelve of roasted: moisture leaves, weight leaves, cost stays. Put the green weight a bag really consumes in its recipe, and every bag is costed on roasted reality, not green math.

Origins are lots, and lots matter

This month's Huila tastes like this month's Huila. From the Maker plan, Keepsel keeps the lot number and date on every green coffee you receive, so you know which lot is on the shelf for consistency, storytelling and the rare quality question.

Size and grind multiply the shelf

Five sizes and five grinds per roast is twenty-five combinations. From the Maker plan, each can be a variation of the roast with its own price and count, and from the Team plan Keepsel builds every combination from your sizes and grinds for you.

Freshness is the product

Roasted coffee peaks in weeks, not quarters. Roast in small runs and plan from what's selling, so the shelf holds coffee at its peak instead of coffee that's aging.

Track everything that goes into a bag of coffee

From raw materials to the finished piece, Keepsel keeps coffee roasters on top of:

  • green coffee, tea or spices by weight
  • bags and tins
  • labels
  • filters and inclusions

A day in Keepsel, for coffee roasters

  1. Land green coffee

Each origin arrives as ounces (or pounds) at the price you paid, with its lot recorded from the Maker plan: the raw side of every future bag.

  2. Roast with yield counted

Each bag's recipe uses the green weight your real shrinkage calls for, so the cost reflects what the roast consumed.

  3. Bag by size and grind

From the Maker plan, a work order for a run of 12 oz bags draws down beans, bags, valves and labels and adds the bags to finished stock (work orders up to 10 a month on Maker as a trial and 100 on Team, unlimited on Business and Enterprise).

  4. Roast to the sales curve

From the Maker plan (or 25 messages free on the trial), ask Suli which roasts and sizes are selling, and let that shape next week's roast plan: fresh coffee, minimal waste, no stale shelf.

This is the math Keepsel does for every product you make: every line from its recipe, updated whenever a material's price changes.

Cost the green at roasted yield or every bag quietly loses 15–18%: the roaster's oldest pricing leak.

Questions coffee roasters ask

How do I price roasted coffee bags?

Start from green cost at roasted yield (the ounces that survive the roast), add bag, valve and label, then roast labor and margin. A $17 bag on $4.25 all-in materials funds the roasting time, the misroasts and the growth.

How do I account for coffee roast shrinkage?

Coffee loses 12–20% of its weight in the roast depending on level. Put your measured loss into the recipe, and a 12 oz bag is costed on the ~15 oz of green it truly consumed.

Do small roasters need lot tracking?

It's the cheapest professionalism there is: knowing which green lot you roasted from turns consistency questions, customer favorites and any quality issue into a specific purchase. From the Maker plan, Keepsel keeps the lot number and date on each green coffee you receive.

How do I manage grind and size options without SKU chaos?

From the Maker plan, size and grind can be variations of one roast, each with its own bag cost (a 5 lb bag isn't five 1 lb bags) and its own count; from the Team plan Keepsel builds all twenty-five combinations for you.

How much green coffee should I keep on hand?

Enough to cover your roast plan through the next delivery, plus a buffer for the bestseller. Set a low-stock level on each origin, and from the Maker plan Keepsel alerts you when it's reached, without tying up cash in slow lots.
